THE LESSON PLAN - by G.J. Prager
Times are tough in L.A., and Robert Klayman, substitute high school teacher, attempts to solve his money woes along with a mid-life crisis by trying on a new career - he finds a job moonlighting as a private detective.

He’s in over his head, and soon enough he stumbles upon a criminal drug ring working out of the Los Angeles Unified School District. His efforts and schemes to find the murderer of a young teacher take him on spine tingling journey through the violent nether world of private detection.

From the streets of L.A. to the gaudy casinos of the Vegas Strip, and through surreal, ghostly Arizona landscapes, Klayman finally redeems himself, but at a price he never could imagine.

'The Lesson Plan,' G.J. Prager states, is a murder mystery book that tells a story centered around the school district that's most in the news today, the Los Angeles Unified School District. From teachers who can't keep their amorous ways outside of the classroom, and students who can't yet read or write and dropout in numbers that are scandalous, to administrators who serve up education in cash strapped schools like they were running fast food outlets, a murder story unfolds that brings it all to the surface.

Times are tough, all right, both in the classroom and out in the world, and Robert Klayman calls for desperate measures. Klayman, an inverted Hamlet who decides to act rather than stand idly by as his miserable life unfolds, is nonetheless stricken with a Hamlet like self-reflection and cynicism that borders on the inane. But  he learns from his mistakes and errant ways, and soon realizes he's in a zero sum game with his life very much in danger. His redemption only comes when everything he has is on the line.

This story is packed with suspense - it's a page turner, to be sure, but it's more than that, Prager states. It's about the American dream - getting what you want by working hard for it, taking on more than you can handle, finding redemption in the face of adversity and coming out of that fire singed but still in one piece - knowing what you're capable of in this world and becoming the person you deserve to be.
